Terms & Conditions

I work on a "time and materials" basis.  As a general rule, materials costs for a full restoration run 10-20% of the total cost, the rest of which is labor.

I do not charge for research on your instrument conducted in the course of a restoration.

You will receive a copy of my handwritten notes for archival guidance to a future repairer or restorer.  You will also receive a disk of digital photographs taken during the course of my work.  Matching the dates on the photographs to the dates in the notes will help inform the reader what is being shown in the pictures.  I reserve the rights to all photographs that I take, as well as to the notes themselves.

I reserve the right to publish illustrated articles about your instrument, but will not identify you in any such publication by name or location.

Every instrument I work on shall be registered with the Reed Organ Society digital database, accessible on the Internet.  The on-line registry will not contain your name or address, but an interested party may contact the database manager, who will contact you as to whether you wish to pursue the contact with the inquirer.

I do not insure the instruments in my shop: the value of most reed organs is difficult to determine, and the cost of insurance prohibitive.  Such a cost would need to be passed on to you, and most customers would blanche at the thought.  I have never lost an instrument in over 25 years of restoration and repair.

Guarantee

Reed organs are generally more than a hundred years old.  For many of them, time has wrought changes which no reasonable repair can wholly rectify.  Defects in materials and workmanship will be replaced at my expense for a period of five years after returning the instrument to you, if I am still compos mentis  and of sound body.  If the instrument needs to be transported to my shop, transportation will be the owner's responsibility.
